After moving to the Big Island of Hawaii in 1998 and taking time to attend
to essential home renovations, I opened the Martina Stephens Fine Art
Studio in Kona in late 1999. My works from that time have been a series
of still life paintings incorporating old Hawaiiana, tropical flowers
and the colorful fabrics of the Islands.
Having spent many years traveling and living around the world, ten of
which were in Saudi Arabia where I maintained my own studio producing
several limited edition prints and a line of greeting cards, I found myself
more and more involved in freelance work. My freelance creative work includes
watercolor illustrations for the Body Shop stores throughout the Middle
East. Watercolor by American Artist magazine as well as their publication,
Color, and several other overseas publications have featured my work.
UNICEF has also used my paintings for their line of greeting cards.
Corporate and private collections throughout the world and many members
of the Saudi Arabian Royal family have acquired my paintings. The Saudi
Ministry of Museums, Antiquities and Education has purchased several of
my works on old Jeddah for the first official museum of the city of Jeddah.
Original works I have completed recently consist of still life and landscape
paintings. My portfolio includes numerous line drawings that I make into
works of art by transferring the drawing to watercolor paper or an art
board and working on the piece with mixed media. In addition to drawing,
painting, and teaching art, I have made time to be an advisor to the Holualoa
Foundation for Arts and Culture, and organize nonprofit weekly life drawing
sessions for the community of artists living in the area.
This is the first production of Giclee prints ranging from 12"x18"
to 22"x30" on paper and 30"x44" on canvas. An eight-page
full color brochure is available upon request.
A series of laser prints, presented in a double-mat cut to fit ready made
frames. My original paintings, and the line drawing transfer prints with
mixed media can be viewed on this web site as well.
