Learn Watercolor Painting

Learn watercolor painting with instructor Greg Schultz. Progress from beginner to competent intermediate painter in eight weekly sessions. Class are normally held on Tuesdays from 9 to noon. Classes are held at the studio of Martina Stephens Kona.

In the first classes, you will learn to select and handle paper, paint and brushes. Subsequent sessions move through the sequence of choosing a subject and creating a simple painting. Once basic skills are acquired you will learn more advanced color mixing, management of lights and darks, and useful tips and tricks. Your final projects include a still-life and a landscape painting. Optional prepared drawings are available if your drawing skill is not strong.

Greg has been learning and teaching watercolor for over forty years. He founded the Kohala Watercolor Group and has shown his award-winning work in both local and regional shows.

Art supplies and beginner kits are available at the studio.

Greg Schultz will offer 5 week practice sessions for the intermediate/experienced watercolorist.  These sessions are held on Mondays.

Watercolor Basics

Watercolor Basics puts focus on technique and control of the media as well as on composition, use of color and knowledge of materials.  This class is an excellent start for students with no previous drawing or painting experience.  As well as a useful learning tool for the intermediate/advanced student.

This class meets once a week, for 6 weeks, at my studio, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  The next Watercolor Basics class will be announced on this page when scheduled, or you may use my contact form or telephone me for more information.

Color Mixing

Learn how to mix the colors you want every time rather than by some happy accident.  You'll learn how to make an array of colors, with a limited palette of 6 colors.  Going into an extended palette by adding 4 more colors.  This course is excellent for the pleinair painter who doesn't want to be bogged down with lots of tubes of paint on location as well as for the artist who just wants to learn the principals of color mixing.

Paint is not included in the material fees but if you are interested in obtaining a kit with all the colors needed for this class, I'll be happy to make you one.  Please phone me for a price. I can also sell you a squeeze of the colors you need and don't have.

 Cost for this workshop is $60 payable at time of registration.  A small fee for materials is applicable as well at the beginning of the workshop.
